Book Reviewer Squad: Utilizing Virtual Youth Volunteers for Collection Development

In Spring 2020, the Austin Public Library had to pivot our popular summer youth volunteer program to a virtual platform. While this seemed like a daunting task, it blossomed into a creative opportunity to engage with Austin’s most avid readers and library advocates! This presentation will cover tips and tricks on how to implement a “Book Reviewer Squad” virtual youth volunteer program, which taught our avid youth readers behind-the-scenes skills in using BiblioCommons, accessing eBooks, and writing professional-level reviews.
