[Keynote Day 2]
Personalized Promotions Where Patrons Are: Content Marketing in the Catalog
Public libraries struggle to make patrons aware of their extensive array of services. For most libraries, the patron search path leads directly into the catalog, but libraries offer so much more than what is reflected in the ILS. While many libraries have tried to solve this problem with Bento-Box solutions, these aggregated search options often deliver irrelevant results, and only diminish the rich catalog search experience for the majority of patrons.
To find a better solution, Chicago Public Library has partnered with BiblioCommons in a pilot project to leverage existing website content, taxonomies and catalog metadata to create personalized promotions within the patron search path. The result is automated, visually appealing and contextually relevant content, including online resources, events, staff recommendations and more. Presentation will include a review of the pilot project goals, how it works, case studies, feedback from staff and users, and share next steps for effective personalized promotions across the library’s digital patron experience platform.
